Trainer’s Choice offers professional animal training services for animal trainers. We are specialized in dogs, but the same training principles can be used with every animal, regardless of the species.

Our training principles

Although our and our clients’ goal is to get the dog to behave the way we wish, dog training is only a little part of what we do. Mainly, we train people; our aim is to make them realize how to behave to get their dog to behave.

We base the training on operant conditioning. It consists of four parts; positive reinforcement, positive punishment, negative reinforcement and negative punishment.

In operant conditioning the animals decide what they consider a reinforcement which increases action or a punishment which lowers action.

Getting results through using treats skilfully

In training we mainly use positive reinforcement. Practically, it means using treats skilfully: through a right action you get a treat, through an unwished action you lose the possibility for a treat. The animal’s behaviour can also be changed by different methods as needed.

The principle is simple but not always easy to control. Training is a mechanical skill which can be improved by practising – and only by practising. You don’t have to understand leadership, pecking order or other false myths.
